Rose Silva King was born in Modesto, California, on October 11, 1944.
Her parents were both from São Jorge. Her father was a farmer and dairyman.
Her mother is a homemaker. Rose grew up and attended schools in Modesto.
For six weeks in the summer between her junior and senior
high school years, she spent six weeks in Guatemala as a student
under the auspices of the American Field Service organization.
She has traveled extensively in Guatemala. She has taken part
in an archaeological dig in Belize and in a sociological study of
the Maya in Yaxunah, Mexico. She has traveled to Italy, Germany,
France, Austria, England, Spain and Portugal. She has
visited the Azores many times, especially São Jorge where she
still has many relatives.
She received her B.A. in Spanish literature from Dominican
College, San Rafael, California, and her M.A. in Spanish
literature from California State University, Sacramento.
She returned to Modesto and married Michael King, her
high school sweetheart. They have been married over thirty
years and continue to reside in Modesto.
She has been, among other things, a travel agent, a teacher,
a nun, an interpreter, a stepmother, a real estate appraiser, a
homemaker and now an author.
